Weather
The winds and weather play a big part in hot air ballooning. If you let a
toy helium balloon go it floats up and goes wherever the wind takes it. In a
large hot air balloon it is no different. Which ever way the wind blows the
balloon goes.
The difference is in control. With the helium balloon it
just keeps going up. With a hot air balloon the pilot can control the
altitude and by varying their altitude can catch different winds going in
varying directions. Some days all altitudes are almost the same speed and
direction. But other days there can be a large difference within just a few
hundred feet. Sometimes as much as 90 degrees difference! |
